The first European answer to the Tesla Model S is finally here, here’s the Porsche Taycan, a four-door sports car with an electric motor up to 761 hp through overboost, plus 1,050 Nm of torque.

The Taikan Turbo S and Taican Turbo models will be the first of the two models to be introduced in the new class. The two models are equipped with the latest technology that comes within the Porsche electric performance system, and are one of the most powerful models in the sports car manufacturer’s current product range.

Less powerful models will follow this year’s SUV. The Porsche Taikan Cross Turismo will be the first model to be added to the electric model category. By 2022, Porsche will have invested more than €6 billion in electric cars.

A car that combines efficiency and performance.

The highest-in-class Taikan Turbo S generates up to 761 hp (560 kW) with launch control technology, while the Taikan Turbo version generates up to 680 hp (500 kW).

The Taikan Turbo S accelerates from sleep to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds, while Taikan Turbo accelerates from sleep to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds.

Turbo S has the capability to travel up to 412 km per charge, while the Taican Turbo per charge travels 450 kilometres (in accordance with the Standard Global Standards test for light vehicles in both cases). The maximum speed of the two SUVs is 260 km/h.

The Taikan is the first 800-volt vehicle instead of the usual 400-volt electric vehicle system, giving Taican drivers a special advantage on the road; in five minutes, the battery can be recharged with enough power to travel 100 kilometers (according to the Standard Global Light Vehicle Test) using the direct current from a high-power charging network.

The battery takes 22.5 minutes to reach 5 to 80 percent of charging in optimal charging conditions, with a maximum charging capacity of 270 kW. Porsche’s total battery capacity is 93.4 kWh. Taikan drivers can charge their cars up to 11 kW at AC in their homes.

Unique cabin design with a range of large displays.

The cockpit is a new move with its clear structure and all-new design. The stand-alone curved instrument panel represents the highest point on the instrument panel to fully focus on the driver.

The 10.9-inch infotainment system display is combined with the passenger seat display, which comes as an optional single-line processing to resemble a glass black board.

All user interfaces in the Taikan have been redesigned. The number of traditional controls such as keys and buttons has been significantly reduced, and has been replaced by smart, easy-to-use control systems — using touch-operating technology or voice control function, which responds to the phrase “Hey Porsche.”

The Taikan is the first Porsche car with a leather-free cabin, all cabin fittings are made of innovative recycled materials, highlighting the concept of sustainability on which the electric vehicle is based.

The “foot space” — the empty space in the leg room at the back of the car — allows passengers in the back to sit comfortably and ensures the low height of the car typical of sports cars. The car has two luggage boxes, with a front luggage compartment capacity of 81 litres and a rear luggage compartment of 366 litres.

Innovative two-speed push engines and two-speed transmission.

The Taikan Turbo and Taican Turbo S come with two highly efficient electric engines, one on the front axle and the other on the rear axle, giving the vehicle four-wheel drive. The two high-performance, high-efficiency synchronised instruments enhance the vehicle’s distance per charge and continuous thrust.

The electric motor, transmission and pulse-controlled adapter are also integrated into a built-in motion unit. These units have the highest power density (per kilowatt-litre of vehicle area) among all the electric motion sets available on the market today. The two electric engines also have a special feature, which is common lye in the heavily wrapped engine.

This technology allows for increased copper in the static part of the engine, resulting in increased capacity and torque while maintaining the size of the components as they are. The 4×4 control system with two electric engines and the power return system are unique advantages, surpassing potential feedback power. Driving tests have shown that when in daily use, the two electric engines do about 90% of braking – without activating hydraulic wheel brakes.

The range of different driving styles in the Taekwondo is no different from the basic concept of the Porsche series, but it is powered by special settings that enhance the optimum use of pure electric drive. The car is available in four driving modes: Range, Normal, Sport and Sport Plus. In addition, individual systems can be added as needed in the Individual Individeoal driving style.

World premiere on three different continents at the same time.
